Hi,

When we had the recent Bongo meet-up we spoke about creating a website
that carries news and relevant information for all the messaging related
OSS projects.

The idea was to create a new domain and website that gathers all the
relevant information and relevant news for the OSS messaging projects.

Firstly, Does anyone think this is a bad idea?

We would need a new domain for this site so suggested domain names would be.

Thanks

Lance

i think this is a great idea, though it might be hard to collect the
information in an easy manner i'd think. how would me maintain it?

i think something generic would be good like: opensourcemessaging.*,
ossmessaging.*, messagingnews.*

Andy suggested an install of storytlr which we could use to aggregate blogs tweets etc.. with very minimal input.

I like your suggestions though for the domain

Hey guys,

I'm pretty on board with the idea of a storytlr or something; I think my
only requirement is that we're able to give non-Bongo people access to
post things. For something to be a true community aggregator, we need to
include other people on equal terms IMHO.

FWIW, this is an example of the kind of thing I was thinking would be
posted on there:

http://blog.internode.on.net/2010/02/12/microsoft-exchange-at-internode/

So, it could be a straight RSS feed from a project like Bongo, it could
also be links like the above that people think are interesting.

I like the idea of "messaging news" - that seems broad enough and
inclusive enough. I think the focus of the site has to be free software,
but that wouldn't necessarily preclude news about proprietary software -
for one thing, watching what the competition is doing (if relevant) is
interesting.

Cheers

Alex.
