Release: 0.5.0 RC 1

Hey guys,

A release candidate for 0.5 is out!

We talked briefly on IRC about moving to a time-based release system,
because it's been a while since 0.4.0. The general proposal is:

* unstable releases every two months;
* stable releases every fix months;
* updates to stable releases whenever.

Thoughts?
